Hi Members,
ECRA is proud of the commitment of several of our members to provide good role models for our community by volunteering as scout leaders. Their service to these young people helps to guide them to become the upstanding citizens that will be the future of our great Nation. These kids are also the future fishermen and divers and thanks to the tireless efforts of Scout leaders Dave Worn and Paul Davis, our fishery continues to be improved each year through their volunteer reef building service with ECRA. The Emerald Coast Reef Association has been invited to set up a booth at the 2010 Scout-a-rama and we are excited to have th opportunity to participate in thier event. We hope to, in a fun way, educate the boys about the importance of reef building in order to create a sustainable fishery. We discussed ideas at the Social last night and here is what we came up with so far: Run the reef building video on the big screen so they can see the entire building, deploying process followed by the videos of the actual underwater reef videos. We also thought having a nerf gun game for them to try shooting nerf balls or missles into holes in different sized fish would be a fun game for the kids. (I think this was the most popular game idea at the social.) Fish ID game with fish posted arount the fairgrounds and the kids fill out the form telling where they found the fish. Coloring Contest for the young scouts Having Scuba Gear that the kids could see. (We didn't discuss it (who) but maybe we could get a diver to give some demonstrations to the kids or do Q & A. Maybe, I could see if a scout that is a diver and a member would be willing to help do this so they would be learning from someone near their age.) Dave said there will be casting areas set up by another organization so we don't want to duplicate thier effort. The kids ages will go all the way up to 18 years old. Does anyone else have ideas they would like to share that might make this a very fun and educational opportunity for these wonderful kids? We can't do too many things, maybe just two or three, but idea sharing is the best way to create the best experience for the kids. Also, If you would like to volunteer to help us pull this together, we always appreciate that!!!!

Many thanks to Stone for taking Friday off to help me get the game finished and the booth set up.
A million thanks to John Garland for helping run the booth all day on Saturday! Seeing the joy on the faces of those little boys (and girls) was priceless! Click on the pictures to enlarge them.
