They've recently re-done the ramp at Lion's park in Valp and I'm told it's very good. I haven't used it since the upgrade. The ramps in Lincoln park are somewhat shallow and parking can be a problem on weekends. The ramp in Rocky Bayou park is a very nice ramp with lots of parking. If you decide to use that one, you're best bet by far is too buy a yearly pass. The ramps in Shalimar and Cinco also have major parking problems on weekends.

I use the ramp at Rocky (in the state park) exclusively for launching my 30 ft boat. The annual pass is the way to go, with it you can get the combination to the gate for each month that your pass is current.

I use the Yacht/Dive Club on base. The ramp isn't all that great (shallow and narrow) but it's a stright shot to the pass and not as crowded as Postal Point.

Charlie I do not think my boat 26' will make the zig zags coming in the gate. How far of a drive is it to the pass from Rocky bayou?

The East Gate zig-zag isn't too bad with my 26' boat. My one trip in through the West Gate was not too fun...I tied up traffic, had to back up, jostle, etc. The gate guards were pretty torqued, particularly when I got out of my truck and moved cones. So, use the east gate...more room, friendly guards.

Rocky Bayou park to Destin pass is about 9 nm, maybe a little less.

I hear you. If the hospital gate is open I don't think it has those fake plastic barriers...just the multiple baby speed bumps. Not sure if they ever fill those things with water anyway.

I always use the North gate/ commercial gate. It's made for semi trucks and large commercial vehicles, lots of room and zig zags.

Good call on the commercial gate. With a 21 footer I've never needed to use it. At less than 2mpg I try to get as close as I can to the pass.

You know there are 3 good ramps in Destin, one (the best one) hits you for 10 bucks a launch. I don't know what the others cost. The Joe's Bayou ramp is the better of the 3, but gets crowded early.

Just go through the West gate, so what if you run over the cones, you're not going to hurt anything, big deal they'll go stand'em back where they want. By the way this is the gate I use and I'm driving a full size extended cab pickup pulling through a 25' boat on an oversized trailer, and I've never knocked over a cone.
