Hi Members!

We would like The Emerald Coast Reef Association to earn the reputation as “The Greatest Reef Association.”

In order to accomplish that goal, we need your input as to what you believe would help us earn that reputation.

All ideas and thoughts are welcome. So tell us what is most important to YOU and what YOU would most like to see us accomplish as an organization. YOUR suggestions could help us plot the course for the future of ECRAI!

Thank you for your participation in this thread!

Emerald Coast Reef Association Incorporated.

To become a recognized organization, a household name if you will, We need to be recognized by the following:
1) The Authorities that manage our marine resource; I think our board has already set our organization up for this, you guys work well with the State and the County.
2) The ordinary weekend Recreational Fisherman (Diver) and Woman. I think we could get more in the public eye with our efforts. We could use a coop deployment to draw the attention to these efforts, maybe even get a set of coops donated for the purpose of using them for a give away to draw membership. We could think about offering a chance to win these coops to people that become full members and perhaps figure out some other rate for current members. The Boat Show in the Mall isn't far off. We could use that arena to draw attention to what we are and what we do. Also we could invite new membership into the organization, and get some to take the step to full membership and not just participate in the forum.

Just some random thoughts, as always I am ready to help where I can.

Here are some of my ideas on improving ECRAI.

1. Start an ongoing reef building/monitoring project. Adding new reef systems every year. As a public service, share research data with County, State and the general public. (Research Data ONLY. NO GPS #'s)
2. Replace our current forum program with V-Bulletin (To see what this format looks like, visit www.scubaboard.com )
3. Have monthly Membership meetings/socials or events,
4. I love Frankies membership building idea. (See his post above.)
5. Listen to our member's ideas and suggestions

Money is the ultimate motivator. It is going to take money to take these baby steps. I appreciate the people that donate for the cause itself but we need to find new ways of getting additional donations from the outside for the betterment of the fishery and our wonderful little organization. I like what CaptFrankie is thinking and would like to add:

a. Partner with local businesses to get donations for raffle. (Bass Pro, Half Hitch, Charter Boat Capts., West Marine, Boaters World, Local Dive Shops...etc.)
b. Contact FWCC to see if they would participate as a joint effort to emphasize conservation and fishery health.

Some people are far more likely to give money to win something than to "Just do something positive," for the community and environment. Either way you need to get people to stop and talk to you in order to try to explain the mission to increase membership.

My 2 pennies. (Posted to wrong thread originaly)

Raffles are a great way to generate money. Some of the best raffles I've seen is fishing trip, gas bbq grill, and a shotgun. And we were the winner of the shotgun. I want mention how many tickets we purchased. Ha!Ha!.
I would like to see more permitted reef areas in Okaloosa County. And get into building some reefs of our own to deploy. I have a picture of a reef that a guy in Pensacola used to build and sale with the permit. He sold them for 125.00 a piece. I'm sure with a little imagination we could come up with a heavier design with approved material. We could possibly make these and sale some of these to create funds. I will email the picture to you Candy so you can post it for people to see.
