We are trying to get vbulletin to allow bigger picture Avatars (the pictures that you may want to appear below your screen name), but until we figure it out, here is what you do.

Pick your favorite picture (usually a waist-to-head shot works well), shrink it using your graphics software (photoshop, microsoft, etc.) to the max allowable size (80x80 pixel). It will probably end up 80 X something smaller.

Save the small pic to your desktop then open vBulletin and go to your Control Panel (CP). Click on the Edit Avatar link and upload the small pic from your computer desktop.

If your upload is successful your Picture Avatar should appear on your posts within about 30 seconds.

I finally found out how to change the allowable size of "personal picture" avatars. I will experiment with the size compared to disk space and other stuff, but I plan to at least double the current avatar size (let's try 160x160) for ECRA Members. Next I will see how big I can make the profile pic (let's try 200x200 for ECRA members). I think I will give everyone a bigger profile pic so we can actually recognize faces. Elsewhere we will encourage everyone to fill out their profiles!

I think vBulletin is automatically re-sizing the pictures you use for avatars and your profile.
