Since Croz opened up on Franjista Culverts, lets use it an example. . .

I haven't dove the culverts this year, but I'll add a post about the conditions of the reef as I observed it in 2003 (10 Aug 03, 17 Oct 03, and 2 Nov 03).

These are very large concrete culverts. Someone correct me, but 5' diameter and 8' long may be close. They are scattered all about; a few stand upright, some are laying down, and some lay on top of each other.

There is not much growth on the culverts, possibly due to the smoothness of the concrete. They sit on a sandy bottom. In 2003, they held flounder and an occational nurse shark. We've seen bullsharks, but they are everywhere. The concrete was still in excellent condition in 2003.

In 2004 we only dove the culverts once (6 Jun 04). The culverts' and bottom conditions had not changed from the previous year.

Fished this spot on Sunday 5/27. Took 3 keeper Red Snapper 16-18.5". Also caught 8 throw-back Reds, 1 Large trigger, and 2 undersized amberjack. Large school of amberjack cruising the spot, all small I think. Fished on ECRAI coordinates. Saw 2' of relief on bottom machine and could make out a few individual culverts at these coordinates. Cruised around to investigate this spot, found small relief scattered around, shows of fish all around-no concentrations though.
