County Decription: Steel Tugboat Belize Queen (Bob Reay Reef)
Deployed: 30 May 01
Depth: 112'
Relief: 35'
Our second dive was on the Belize Queen, also called the Bob Reay Reef. Its an 85 tugboat sunk on 30 May 01 sitting upright on the sand in 110 of water with the bow pointing northeast. The bow is pointed as compared to the H bow of the Angelina. The stern has no gunwale and is level with the sand. Most of the interior is full of sand but there are some compartments that are accessible. The wheelhouse is cramped, but accessible. The top of the wheelhouse is at 95 feet because the wreck has sunk into the sand somewhat. There were plenty of Amberjack swimming around but not many big ones. There were also Atlantic Spadefish, Spotfin Butterflyfish, Queen Angelfish, Mother-In-Law Fish, Grunts, and a few Shovelnose Lobsters. There was a large school of Greater Barracuda hanging out at the safety stop. It was a good dive. Sea states were less than one foot, the sun was shining the entire day, there was a light breeze out of the southwest, the dolphins were out in force, the rays were jumping, and the fish were feeding. Water temperatures varied from 75 degrees at 110 feet, to 77 degrees at 40 feet, to 80 degrees at 15. Visibility also varied with depth. Above 40 feet, the visibility was up to 50 feet. Below 40 feet, it dropped off initially and then got better the deeper we went. Visibility on the bottom was about 40 feet.
