So the Fed Gov says the oil is gone, then why are Fed waters still closed?
Or, am I missing something?

They did reopen some waters in the southeastern gulf, but no relief for our waters yet.

It really doesn't make any sense. Unless old Roy Crabtree has something up his sleeve to protect 'his' precious snappers.

I've been diving the last two weekends and the snapper have been pretty scarce. In shore anyways. I saw more yesterday than the week before but not huge schools of them.
The water is warmer and they are most likely deeper in the colder water.
As far as to why the Federal Waters are still closed, that does make you wonder doesn't it.
It may be time to neuter our out of control Federal Government. There is an election this November, maybe it's time we made our displeasure known at the ballot box. ;)
Anyone ever wonder why we need a National Marine Fisheries Service, The National Fish and Wildlife Service, The Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission, the Gulf Council etc...to all do the SAME job? Cut Government waste and send control of protecting our oceans back to the respective states.

There is a LOT of over-lap in our controlling agencies, no denying that. But, I'm not so sure that it can be left entirely up to the states. The gulf is a big body of water bordered by 5 states. I don't think each state having their own plan and schedule would work in the best interest of the fisheries.
I think our biggest enemy (beside Crabtree) is the Magnum-Stevenson act. I don't think anyone saw the side effects ahead of time. Like so many things, it started out with good intensions and morphed into a monster.

Could it be that everyone has been fishing in state waters nearly all snapper season?

That's more like it!:D :D :D Now if only they would re-open snapper season..........
I can only hope that October is included in the snapper re-opening, that would make the Destin Rodeo much more interesting.
