Anyone hear about a ship for a reef ? It was being towed by a tug east bound passed us on Sat. at between 9:00 and 10:00am headed toward P.C. it was over a 100 " long floating high in the water (thats why we thought it might be preped as a reef)we were on Greens reef and it passed between us and shore.

We saw it but thought it was a ocean going barge. It looked like it had some kind of cargo. We posted a picture of it in our dive log.

I haven't heard of PC getting a new reef but, if they are, good for them!

The vessel pictured in Candy's picture is an empty coal or phosphate barge. As we get closer to winter those guys will run what they call the TV route (TV stands for Television) this puts them closer so that they can take advantage of the leigh of the shore when the wind is from the north, it also gives them a chance to watch their favorite football team. Of course I am not speaking of the crew in the pilothouse, they would be focused on the task at hand.

Capt Frankie,

Thanks for the informed identification.

What football teams should I be watching for you?

I am posting this as a follow up to the previous discussion about the barge that was seen transiting along the coast recently . Although I can't see the boat and barge in Candy's picture well enough to ID them I am almost positive that it is (they are) one of the ones in the pictures I am attaching. In these pictures the boats are "in the notch" at the stern of the barge as opposed to in Candy's picture the barge is on the hawser. The moored boats and barges in the first two pictures belong to Dixie Fleet and can be recognized by the blue DF (separated by a lightning bolt instead of a slash) on the stack. In the third picture is a boat and barge operated by Moran Towing notice the barge is being towed on the hawser. Moran's boats can be recognized by the large M on their stack.
